Hana Carey

Chair

Hana (she/her) is the Manager of Programs and Partnerships at Cortico, a non-profit whose mission is to bring underheard voices to the center of stronger civic spaces. She is deeply committed to education and youth development with a background in both schools and youth-centered non-profits. Previously, she taught middle and high school history, and was also a leader in equity and inclusion work within her school communities. In addition to working in schools, Hana organized educational programming and outreach at a journalism non-profit and advocated for equitable access to civics education across the country.

She holds a B.A. in Anthropology with a minor in Art History from the College of the Holy Cross; and in 2017, she graduated from Johns Hopkins University with an M.A. in Museum Studies with a specific focus on museum education. Hana loves the outdoors, studying Japanese, and all things basketball (go Celtics!)

Caroline Kurtz

Caroline (she/her) was born and raised in Springfield, Ohio, graduating from Vassar College (BA, English) in 1981 and Boston University (MS, Science Communication) in 1985. Between 1981 and 1997 she worked as a writer and editor in public affairs/communications in Boston, MA, primarily at Boston University Medical Center and then at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. 

Upon moving to Missoula, Caroline began work as a writer and editor of various science publications at the University of Montana. Caroline remains in Missoula with her family. They spend as much time as they can in the glorious open spaces and public lands around Missoula and all over Montana.

Dan Carreno

Treasurer

Dan (he/him) has 17 year of experience in the finance and sustainable investment industries. Throughout his career he has consulted with countless individuals and institutions to help them meet their financial goals while making a positive impact through their investment decisions. Dan holds an MS in Environmental Policy and Management and is a Certified Investment Management Analyst®.

Katie DeFusco

Secretary

Katie (she/her) joins the board as an Account Manager for The Muse, a destination for the next gen workforce to research companies and careers. Prior to this role, Katie was an HR Manager for L Brands, assuming the HR responsibilities for the company’s two Flagship locations: 5th Avenue and Herald Square. Katie began her career in Human Resources while attending graduate school at the Ohio State University, where she earned her Master’s in Human Resource Management.

Originally from Connecticut, Katie completed her undergraduate degree at the College of the Holy Cross. She recently moved to New York City and in her spare time, Katie enjoys playing volleyball, reading, and listening to podcasts (of course!).

Kara Cromwell

director

Kara (she/her) is an ecologist and science communicator who finds inspiration at the intersections of ecological science with everyday life. As the founder of Confluence Ecology, she works with nonprofits and schools in her home community of Missoula, MT to engage citizens with the ecology of place through science writing, developing science outreach initiatives, curriculum, or public science programs that make science meaningful in a place-based setting.

Kara is also a Faculty Affiliate at the University of Montana where she researches the ecology of predator-prey-parasite interactions and teaches ecology in formal and informal settings. In her spare time, Kara feeds 2 small children and a sourdough starter that’s been in her life since 2007.


Luca Borghese

director

Luca Borghese (he/him) was born in New York City and has worked in film production since 2000. He recently founded his own production company, AgX, named for the group of chemicals that make photographic materials light sensitive. He produces films everywhere from Seoul and Istanbul to Syracuse, NY. Luca worked at Sony Pictures Classics from 2004 to 2007. He has a BA from Yale University in Music, with a specialization in theory and composition. He is an avid photographer and has too many hobbies, one or two of which he hopes will become his next career.


Eddie Gonzalez

director

Eddie Gonzalez (he/him) works at the intersections of creative expression and spiritual care, as well as digital media and community engagement. With a BA in journalism and an MFA in creative writing, he became a hospice chaplain in 2009, and over the last fourteen years has worked within healthcare and national nonprofits to create meaningful spaces for storytelling, compassionate listening, and reflective dialogue. He currently works at On Being.

Eddie has a deep interest in the relationship between inner and outer life and how the stories we tell can have profound impacts on ourselves, each other, and the natural world. He finds inspiration and solace in the arts, the outdoors, and time spent with loved ones.


Brittany Damico

director

Brittany (she/her) has worked in the financial services industry since 2007 and is dedicated to the sustainable and responsible investing space. She has supported individuals, financial firms, and nonprofits whose goals have aligned with growing a capital market system that better serves people and the planet. She holds a BS in Chemistry and Environmental Science from the University of Hawai'i and a MSc in Ecological Economics from the University of Edinburgh.

Most recently Brittany has co-founded a business designed to help scale and elevate the voices of mission-focused asset managers in the financial industry. In addition to her work in financial services, Brittany serves her local community as a certified yoga instructor.
